Overview

The Yubra Himal climb is one of the easiest peak ascents in the Langtang region, reaching an altitude of 6,048 meters. Despite its accessibility, Yubra Peak remains an off-the-beaten-path destination, with few climbers attempting its summit. A scenic 4-hour hike from Kyanjin Gompa leads adventurers to this untouched alpine wonderland.

Reaching the summit unveils breathtaking panoramic views, stretching across Langtang Valley and Langsisa Kharka. Interestingly, the straight-line distance from Kathmandu to Yubra Peak is only 64.2 kilometers. The climb rewards mountaineers with spectacular vistas of Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Langtang Lirung, Langshisa Ri, Yala Peak, Ganjala Peak, and even Shishapangma.

Beyond the jaw-dropping scenery, trekkers can immerse themselves in Tamang culture while witnessing diverse landscapes along the way. It also unveils lesser-known peaks near the Tibetan border, adding to its remote and adventurous appeal. This thrilling climb is possible year-round, except in January and February, when harsh winter conditions make the ascent unsafe.

Venturing beyond the usual trails, climbers explore the pristine wilderness of Langtang National Park. Since Yubra Peak is classified as an NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association) Peak, a special climbing permit is required. The trek begins with a picturesque approach, passing through quaint villages, terraced farmlands, and lush forests filled with bamboo, rhododendron, conifer, oak, and pine trees.

During spring, the forests burst into a vibrant display of wildflowers, adding to the trek’s natural beauty. The trail continues through the dramatic Langtang River canyon, gradually opening to the expansive alpine grasslands of Kyanjin Gompa. As trekkers advance, they witness an extraordinary contrast—where glaciers meet lush pasturelands, creating a surreal and unforgettable landscape.

02 Day Overland drive to Syapru Besi Bazaar (1,500m/4,922 feet), 7 hours

At morning we’ll drive on a northern highway that twists and climbs over mountain ridges to the Trishuli valley for lunch and on to Syapru village for the overnight. Riding on road is still amazing but the adventure bus drive takes about 7 hours over picturesque landscapes and mountain villages.

03 Day Lama Hotel trek (2,480m/8,137 feet), 6 hours

After breakfast, trek ascends through the forest followed by a climb to reach Bamboo village. Bamboo is located on the Langtang river bank at an altitude of 1,850 meters. This forest path is a well-established trail and follows upstream to see birds live around the bushes. Beehives hanging on a cliff are another attraction for visitors. From here we’ll again steeply climb through the bamboo forest to reach the Lama Hotel where we’ll stay overnight.

04 DayMundu Village Trek(3,430m/11,254 feet), 6 hours

From Lama Hotel, the trail leads across a forest of hemlock, oaks, maples, and rhododendron observing glimpses of Langtang Lirung, reaches to Gumanchok (2800m). Climb to Ghora Tabela (2,970m) and further ascends to Thangshyap (3,140m/10,300 feet). On the way, there is an entrance checkpoint where Nepal Military collects Langtang national park entrance fees. Pay just for single-time entry if you haven’t paid in Dhunche, you have to pay Langtang national park fees here. Climbs gradually to Sindum and to Yamphu (3640m) to Mundo where we stay for a night.

05 Day Kyanjin Gompa hikes (3,830m/12,566 feet), 3 hours

Crossing the Laja Khola then climbs a moraine to a viewpoint where you can see Kyanjin Gompa and the dramatic icefall flowing from Langtang Lirung and Kinshung. As you climbed the hill, walk a little down to reach kyanjin gompa lodges. You might go further to the Langtang glacier – Langtang river and its origin.

06 Day Kyanjing Ridge day hikes. Alternatively, a full day hike to Tsergo Ridge, 6 hours

Explore around the Langtang Lirung glacier and dry Himalayan Yak pasture. We climb to Tsergo Ridge hill only if the weather is clear with a blue sky. In clear weather, you can see stunning mountain vistas like Langtang Lirung, Ganjala Chuli, Yala peak, and Dorje Lakpa.

07 Day Prepare climbing gear and Yubra Peak Base Camp trek (4,900m/16,077 feet), 4 hours

Check about the Yubra Himal Climb gears before you proceed to hike to Yubra base camp. Begin your base camp hiking and set up a campsite at the base camp to say overnight. Gokyo Treks Nepal expert climbing guide will brief climbing instructions, which help climbers to get to the summit and descend to the campsite safely.

08 Day Yubra Peak summit climb (6,264m/20,552 feet). Descend to the Kyanjin Gompa, 9 hours

In wintertime climbing, about the last 500 meters need rope up and using crampons with a walking ice axe. Except for the winter months, tourists climb the summit taking professional climbing gear and guidance.

Summit offers the top view of Shishapangma, Dorje Lakpa, Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, Langtang Lirung, and many other border mountains. Shoot the best mountains, return to the Base Camp, and further downhill to Kyanjin Gompa lodge if time and energy permit.

09 Day Reserve day for contingency in case of bad weather

There is no guarantee that we can get quite a favorable climate on our planned day for the Yubra summit. Thus, today is a contingency in case we are unable to get the summit or for some other reason. If the weather gets exceptionally unfavorable we wisely have to modify the climbing program to reach the summit. If the trip goes smoothly, we do not need this spare day.

10 Day Descend trek to Ghoda Tabala passing Kyanjin Gompa, 7 hours

From base camp descends to Ghoda Tabala passing Kyanjin gompa and Langtang villages. During the hikes, you can walk over the tiny yak pastures and the glacial moraine of Langtang landslides, the new Langtang village. Furthermore, you can walk following the Langtang Khola and on to Ghoda Tabela lodge.

11 Day Syapru Besi Trekking (1,500m/4,922 feet), 6 hours

The upper section of the trek offers a more breathtaking experience, showcasing panoramic mountain vistas and lush green hills. As the trail winds through charming Sherpa and Tamang villages, it remains broad and sunlit, enhancing the journey’s scenic appeal.

Initially, the nature trail descends gradually, allowing trekkers to soak in the surroundings before transitioning into a steep descent leading to the Syabrubesi guesthouses. Notably, Syabrubesi Bazaar has gained prominence in recent years, as it serves as a key junction along the highway connecting Nepal to the Kerung border in Tibet.

12 Day Drive back to Kathmandu.

Drive back to Kathmandu by Kerung Deluxe Yatayat bus which takes about 7 hours to get to Kathmandu city center. Trip Finish. Wish you a wonderful journey.
