Overview
The Renjo La Pass trek is a thrilling adventure located at an altitude of 17,586 feet, nestled between Thame and Gokyo Valley. As one of the most remote and alternative trekking routes in the Everest region, it offers an extraordinary experience for those seeking a more unique adventure.
Throughout the trek, tourists can explore remote villages, towering mountains, glacial lakes, and pristine rivers, immersing themselves in the untouched beauty of the Everest region. Notably, the Gokyo Renjo La Pass trek is regarded as one of the most challenging and demanding routes in terms of both difficulty and the awe-inspiring Himalayan scenery.
Upon reaching at Renjo La summit, trekkers are rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, lakes, and rivers. From this vantage point, you can observe four 8,000-meter peaks—Mount Makalu, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu, and Everest—along with numerous other majestic snowy peaks stretching before you.
You can walk through the delightful valleys, where you’ll encounter crystal-clear lakes and the world’s largest Ngozumpa glacier, all set against the backdrop of the towering Everest Himalaya range. Your visit to Gokyo Lakes, revered as holy pilgrimage sites by both Hindus and Buddhists, presents a profoundly spiritual experience.
A visit to Renjo la is itself a remote and off-the-beaten-path, providing a true escape into the wilderness. Inhabitants of this area include the solitary Tibetan-Buddhist Sherpa community, who migrated to the region after 1960, adding a rich cultural layer to this unforgettable adventure.
On the Renjo La trek, visitors will encounter lush rhododendron and pine forests at lower elevations, transitioning to sparse alpine meadows and rugged glacial terrain as you ascend. Wildlife along the route includes Himalayan tahr, and blue sheep, while the elusive snow leopard may be spotted in remote areas. Bird enthusiasts can also witness species like the Himalayan monal, snow pigeon, and griffon vulture soaring over the high-altitude landscapes.
Although this trek is demanding, it is more accessible nowadays, thanks to the well-maintained steps on the slopes and the addition of fixed iron poles for added support. However, it is important to note that Lungden and Gokyo Resorts are closed during mid-winter due to extreme cold, icy waters, and heavy snowfall.

Thanks to the excellent services of Ammar Gunni and our friendly and helpful Porter-Guide Tej Regmi we had an unforgettable experience of the high Himalayas.

The team of Ammar helped us get our money back from the airline Goma Air who were not cooperative and tried to deny our refund,… but in the end, it was solved.
