Nagarjun Hill, standing at an elevation of 2,128 meters (6,982 feet), is situated approximately 7 kilometers west of central Kathmandu. Hike to this vantage point is renowned for its mesmerizing views of the majestic Mount Manaslu (8,165m), Ganesh Himal (7,446m), Langtang Lirung (7,245m), and several other snow-capped peaks. Additionally, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of Kathmandu.

As part of the Shivapuri national park, the Nagarjun Hill day hike is also a favorite for cycling and bird-watching enthusiasts. This itinerary provides a well-rounded day of hiking, allowing time to appreciate both the natural beauty and cultural significance of Nagarjun Hill.

07:30 AM – Departure from Thamel:

Meet at your hotel in Thamel. Your guide will greet you, and a private car will transfer you to the Nagarjun Hill entry point at Fulbari gate in Balaju. From your hotel in Thamel to reach at National Park entrance check post takes approximately 30 minutes drive by a private car.

08:00 AM – Begin the Hike to Jamacho Monastery:

As its a part part of the Shivapuri National Park, we need to purchase a park entrance ticket and start the day hike through the lush forests of Nagarjun Hill. This leads you uphill to Jamacho Monastery, offering stunning views of the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding mountains.

11:00 AM – Arrive at Jamacho Monastery:

Reach the summit at Jamacho Gumba, located at 2,128 meters. Spend time exploring the monastery, soaking in panoramic views of Mount Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, and the Kathmandu Valley.

12:00 PM – Begin to descent to the Nagarjun Hill Entry Point:

After enjoying the scenery, start your descent back through the serene forest. Hike to Nagarjun forest is one of the best short hikes nearby Thamel, and marked as the most demanding trail for Foreign travelers.

02:00 PM – Return to the Entry Point on Fulbari gate:

Capturing the good memories, we descend down hill to Fulbari gate where we started before. Exit the Fulbari miltary gate and taking a private car, we return to your hotel in Thamel territory.

02:30 PM – Arrival in Thamel:

We hope that you enjoyed walking in the nature, captured a great memories. We drop you off t your hotel in THAMEL, marking the end of the hike.

What To expect on Nagarjun day hiking at Jamacho Gumba?

This is all about hiking into the hill station and purely nature walks into the forest. Recorded wildlife in this conservation park includes mammalian species such as Himalayan Black bears, leopards, jungle cats, and rhesus monkeys. This Shivpuri Nagarjun park is also home to 177 species of birds, including at least 9 threatened species, 102 species of butterflies with a number of rare and endangered species, and 129 species of mushrooms. Additionally, there are about 125 Tigers recorded in this National Park.
