Overview

The Lower Mustang Trek takes you deep into the hidden world of an ancient Buddhist kingdom. Once part of the Tibetan Empire, this region maintains a rich cultural connection to Tibet. Tibetan Buddhism thrives here in its purest form, and villages showcase traditional whitewashed houses with firewood stacked on rooftops.

Mustang lies in Nepal’s trans-Himalayan rain shadow, creating a landscape unlike any other. It is an ideal route for travelers of all ages, offering breathtaking scenery and a glimpse into vibrant Buddhist traditions. The region’s golden fields and striking terrain form an oasis of culture and nature.

A major highlight is Muktinath, a sacred site revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. Pilgrims from Nepal and India visit this holy temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The complex features a pagoda-style shrine and 108 waterspouts, believed to cleanse sins.

Nearby, Jwala Mai Temple houses a sacred spring and an eternal flame fueled by underground natural gas. For centuries, these flames have been worshipped as Jwaladevi, the goddess of fire. A journey to Muktinath, with its sacred temples and spiritual aura, is a must for any trekker exploring the Annapurna region.

Lower Mustang is also home to diverse wildlife, thriving in its high-altitude terrain. Visitors may encounter blue sheep, Himalayan marmots, and even the elusive snow leopard. Vegetation shifts from lush pine and juniper forests to hardy alpine shrubs and rare medicinal plants.

We found a local agency and booked our Mustang trekking in Nepal. It was a good decision to support the local economy. Ammar, the owner of the agency offered us the best travel plan at a cheaper price than any popular trekking operator agencies via online.

Our Guide Kamal kc was amazing and easy-going and made our journey awesome. Ammar fixed and hired a porter in Jomsom airport which was best for us to travel cheaper.
