Overview
The Kala Patthar Trek is an exhilarating and demanding journey that rewards adventurers with breathtaking views of the world’s tallest mountains, awe inspiring landscapes, remote high altitude villages, and centuries old Buddhist monasteries.
As you ascend toward the legendary black rock viewpoint, Kala Patthar, you’ll find yourself at one of the most renowned hill stations for witnessing Mount Everest and a spectacular panorama of towering peaks stretching across the horizon.
Our carefully designed route winds through the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its dramatic terrain and rich biodiversity. Often referred to as the Everest Photography Trek, this path follows in the historic footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, offering a rare opportunity to experience the warmth of Sherpa hospitality by staying in their traditional lodges along the way.
By combining the Everest Base Camp trek with Kala Patthar, trekkers gain the absolute best vantage point for viewing Everest at 8,848 meters, alongside other 8,000 meters giants such as Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Makalu. From the summit of Kala Patthar, the panoramic vistas are simply unparalleled, offering a front row seat to the grandeur of the Himalayas.
Along the trek, nature unfolds in stunning diversity, with lush rhododendron forests, juniper, and pine dominating the lower elevations, while hardy alpine shrubs and mosses thrive at higher altitudes. Wildlife enthusiasts may encounter Himalayan Tahr, musk deer, and vibrant pheasants, while those fortunate enough might even catch a glimpse of the elusive snow leopard or Tibetan snowcock navigating the rugged Himalayan slopes.
During clear weather, Everest takes on a mesmerizing pink hue at sunset, while the golden sunrise transforms the peaks into a radiant spectacle—making this trek an unforgettable experience. Hikers are encouraged to walk at their own pace, taking ample time to rest and soak in the natural beauty. To ensure a safe and rewarding journey, our experienced mountain guide will provide expert advice on acclimatization, trekking strategies, and altitude management, making this adventure suitable for all seasons.

Kala Patthar and EBC trek
This was the 2nd time we trekked with Gokyo Treks and Expedition. It was overall another fabulous trek and experience. The scenery was wonderful and we were pleased with the trip.
The fee charged was comparatively lower compared to other agencies while Ammar, the boss, was doing a wonderful service back to the community by committing part of the company’s earnings to fund the education of orphans, and victims of the past earthquake.
We were touched by his effort and commitment to giving back to society in helping the needy. Keep up the good work and we look forward to our next trek with the Gokyo agency.
