| Pony Trekking in Nepal |
| |
Horse riding offers you a unique adventure journey in Nepal to make your family holiday enjoyable. Due to the country's geographical features many places in different regions are not accessible. People living there are using horses to travel from place to place, carry food, clothes, medicines and other goods to far, remote areas. Especially in trans-Himalayan region (behind the tall mountain or southern rim of Tibetan plateau) where people have adopted horse riding as a culture and most important means for daily life. By this, we have come to know that those who are unable to walk on foot in the trans- Himalayan region can also make their trekking trip to Nepal and explore their imagination.
Horse and Ponies plays a major role in Nepalese life as well. As Nepal is a hilly country where most of people still have no access of road and they use Ponies to ride, carry foods, clothes or anything they are in need of. Ponies (actually small horses) can be rented for one day or longer in Pokhara and in some mountain areas. Trekkers can plan a full pony trek or short stints to lessen the strain of daily hiking several outfits are located in Pokhara.
Ponies have been a means of transport for people and materials for centuries in Nepal and are today used extensively for trekking. Pony treks follow nearly the same routes as normal treks and are offered mostly in the western region around Pokhara, as well as in the hinterlands of Dolpo and Lo Manthang. |
