Gandan To Samye Trekking ( 15 Nights / 16 Days)
 
The itinerary has a rich variety of scenery from high snowy passes to lush alpine meadows to the desert like environs by Samye Monastery. This pilgrimage route is well traversed by Tibetans who find it convenient to combine a visit to Gandan (the principal monastery of the Gelugpa sect) with a reasonably direct, albeit hard walk to Samye, Tibet's first monastery.
 
Days
 Program
Day 1
 Arrive Lhasa Gonggar Airport and transfer to hotel.
Day 2-3
Visit Potala, Jokhang, Drepung, Sera and Norbulingka
Day 4
 Day excursion to Tsurphu monastery
Day 5
Drive to Gandan and visit monastery. After lunch start as trek to Hebu valley. It takes about 4 hours to reach the village and camp above. Have a good rest here before tackling the pass.
Day 6
 To south base camp of shogar La, 6-7 hrs. This is the most difficult way of this trek, so make sure to start early
Day 7
 Cross the Gamba La and camp by the riverside, 6-7 hrs.
Day 8
 To I-Malong, 6 hrs.
Day 9
 To Samye 5 hrs. afternoon, visit the monastery and camp nearby
Day 10
 Take the Samye Ferry and drive to Tsetang . Transfer to the hotel. Afternoon , visit Yumbulhakang and Trandrug Temple
Day 11
 day excursions to Chongyal valley
Day 12
 Drive to Gyantse via Ymdrog Lake. Visit the monastery and the town
Day 13
 drive to shigatse and transfer to the hotel. After lunch visit Tashilunpo monastery and the local market
Day 14
 Drive to Tingri and overnight in guest house
Day 15
 drive to Nyalam/ Zhangmu. Overnight in hotel/ guest house
Day 16
 Departure for Kathmandu
